Album Covers and Magazine Advertisements

I have been researching album covers and I am going to analyse some to help me with ideas for my own.

This is one of Jennifer Lopez's album covers. I really like how it is simple and is just a close up of her face and nothing else apart from the title of the album. They use a good contrast level as it is black and white they have made her skin look very pale and bright against the darkness of her hair. They have used good simple make up but they have defined her eyes which makes them stand out and for the buyer to get drawn to them. She has quite a serious but seductive facial expression which is intriguing and slightly mysterious. She isn't smiling but her lips look like they have got a pale sort of colour on so they don't stand out too much. The have used a mixture of pink and white for the small amount of text on the front of this which is a good contrast against the darkness of her hair, it makes it really jump out at you so you read it. The fort part of the text is highlighted in pink which says 'jlo' which shows her femininity and who it is, it is representing her as a singer but they have put the 've' in white which makes it look like it says I love. I think they have put it in white as they are trying to represent her innocence and purity, as they have put a question mark after in pink it is like they are saying 'who do I love'.

This is one of Beyoncé's album covers. This is also a very simple album cover and is more about the picture rather than what is written on it. The picture is a close up of her face a upper chest, the background is all scenery which is slightly blurred so that we focus on her and not what is in the rest of the photo. They have her positioned at the right side of the photo looking away from the camera. Her make up really defines her eyes and makes them stand out whereas her lips are quite neutral with aa metallic tint which makes you look at them first as they stand out. They have styled her quite casual with her hair up and just waves down by her face. Her skin looks like it is glowing in the light of the sun which makes her look angel like as it is as if she is shining. The way she is looking away from the camera makes her look mysterious and makes you wonder what she is looking at. The writing naming her and the name of the album, are in two different fonts, the font used for her name is also used on several other of her albums/singles.

This is Adele's album cover, like all of the others I have looked at it is quite simple. The picture is once again a close up of her face, she is looking down with her head on her hand, she looks like she is sad and dreaming/ thinking of important things. She has a very interesting look about her in this photo which draws you in and makes you wonder what she is thinking about and what each song is going to be about. The way the light shines on her face it makes her skin look beautiful and makes the features of her face stand out, the make up on her eyes makes them stand out. The shadowing on her face seems like it is representing a dark/sad side to her songs. There is not much writing on this album only her name and the name of the album. The writing is all in the same font and in capitals, this makes it stand out. They have also put the name of the album in a different colour so you know that it is the name of the album.

This magazine advertisement for Jessie J's album 'Who you are'. This picture is a close up of Jessie J's face, its a unique picture of her which links to the title of her album 'Who you are'. She has very bold make up on emphasising her eyes and lips, she had also got her nails and lips and clothes in a  matching colour (black), which is contrasted on a white background. Her name is very bold on the picture ( in gold) with the album name in smaller different font underneath. All of this is mounted on a black background which goes with the colour scheme of her make up and clothing. On this there is the name of the album and it tells you what it includes (No.1 hit etc). This advertises just enough so people want to go and have a look at the album and then go on to buy it.

This is an advertisement for Florence and the machines album. This has an image of Florence which is made to look like a drawing as the background and the lower half of her body. This picture makes you think that the songs are all fantasy based. This picture also draws you in and makes you wonder why they have composed it in this way. They have the name of the band at the top of the magazine advertisement, and the name of the album 'Lungs' underneath the picture. The picture is mounted on a black background and all the writing is done in white. The writing tells you when the album is released, what No.1 hits of theirs are in the album, It also says what you can buy the album on.

This is an advertisement for Ellie Goulding's album 'Lights'. This advertisement has a picture of Ellie Goulding looking quite natural looking away from the camera with her hand behind her head. She has very neutral make up on as they have emphasised on her hair and edited it so her hair has lights running through it and behind her there is lots of glittering lights as such. The rest of the background and what she is wearing is black, with all of the written parts, apart from her name, is in white which had quotes from critics and the amount of stars they would give it and the album includes (No.1 hits).
